How To Know If You Have Enough Faith

How much faith do we need to have for it to be “enough” in God’s eyes?

What do we need to understand and believe?

Is there a specific body of truth statements or a theological construct we must grasp and affirm?

When Jesus spoke to people He often used images, metaphors and similes.  He spoke of intensity and commitment.  He said people needed to love Him more than their parents and more than their children.  He said they needed to be willing to die for Him to be worthy of Him. (Matthew 10:37-38)

Worthiness here is not a matter of performance or accomplishment, but of treasure and focus.  We must prize the Kingdom and focus on (prioritize) our relationship with Jesus above and beyond anything or anyone else.  Jesus used strong, direct and bold language - to make a clear, undeniable point:  The priority of Jesus and the Kingdom is everything.

The question isn’t how much faith you have, it’s about how central and focused your faith is.  Is your faith centered on what God has/hasn’t done for you, what He can or will do for you?  Or is your faith a loving abandon - an utter devotion to Jesus no matter what?

Are you willing to die for Him?

Are you willing to live for Him?

Are you willing to do for Him?

Are you willing to still yourself for Him?

Are you willing to wait for Him?

When Job’s life was unbearable; when almost everything that could go wrong went wrong and when almost everything that could be taken from him was taken, when his wife encouraged him to simply curse God and die, Job said,

“Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him.” (Job 13:15)

When things were not going well for Judah, and enemy forces were poised to attack, Habakkuk expressed His faith in God.  He wrote,

“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.” (Habakkuk 3:17-18)

Is your faith a love and commitment expression to Jesus – no matter what?  This is what Kingdom faith looks like.

Kingdom faith is a solitary focus on your relationship with Jesus in any and every situation – at all times.  Such a faith is expressed as continual worship in all of life.
