Fan the Flame

You were uniquely and intentionally created by God. He imagined you and spoke you into being. He breathed His creative life into your mother’s womb, at a specific time, in a specific setting, with specific strengths, abilities and weaknesses. He has seen and overseen your circumstances and promises to bring good out of every situation. He will use hardship as discipline to teach you about Himself, His Kingdom and how life works.

As you love Him, look for Him and learn His ways, He will unlock His ancient paths which have been prepared for you.  God has purposely planted you, and He wants to help you grow; it’s who He is and it’s who you are in Him.  He also wants you to live by the power of His Holy Spirit.

Somehow, when we become believers in Christ we experience a kind of spiritual upgrade. God magnifies our abilities to perceive, experience and express the Kingdom of God. This spiritual expansion is often
accompanied by fillings of the Holy Spirit that impart particular giftings and enablings that enhance our spiritual service. These are like Kingdom “power tools” that God gives us to exercise His purposes and will on earth.

The apostle Paul wrote to his protégé, Timothy, “I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us
timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy1:6-7)

Paul was reminding Timothy of the spiritual impartation that occurred when he had prayed for Timothy at an earlier time. Paul prayed and a spiritual transaction took place. Timothy was engifted/enabled with some
new and/or magnified spiritual abilities. This was probably clarified through the prophetic insight of a few of the other leaders who were present during that time of prayer. Paul was reminding Timothy to reflect upon that day and upon that encounter with God. He was encouraging his apprentice to stir up his spirit … to activate that which God had implanted in him.

What has God implanted in your spirit through the ministry of others? (If you are not sure, gather some mature, fired up believers to pray for you – and God will strengthen you in this way.)

Are there any gifts/callings that God has given you in the past? What might you do to fan the embers of boldness in those areas? What dusting off is needed?

Maybe you need to read some things that will re-energize you. Possibly you need to get around some folks who are doing what you have been neglecting to do.  It’s time to revive what has been laying dormant.

Wake up you sleepy head, God is ready to move through you. Be bold, and let’s get going!
