Today, Bolster Your Identity in the Lord

Is It Time to Refresh Your Identity in the Lord?

Did you know that the greatest battles in your life aren’t really about your circumstances? At their core, they are battles over your identity.

From the beginning, the enemy’s strategy has been to attack our identity by distorting our relationship with God. In the Garden, he led Eve to question God’s goodness—painting Him as a liar and a withholder. His goal? To make her feel lacking, inadequate, and disconnected from her true identity. (Genesis 3)

Fast forward to Jesus in the wilderness, and the enemy used the same tactic. Every temptation—about provision, authority, and significance—was an attack on Jesus’ identity as the Son of God. (Luke 4:1-13) Adam and Eve believed the lie and lost their footing, but Jesus stood firm, choosing to trust His Father completely.

How Do You Deepen Your Identity in Christ?

It’s not about pretending to be stronger or more faith-filled than you are. Instead, it starts with raw honesty. Sit with God and pour out your real needs, longings, and fears. Bring your weaknesses into His presence—your insecurities, doubts, and struggles.

Why? Because when you let Him meet you in your most vulnerable places, you discover that His love isn’t based on your ability to hold things together. Your identity is secure in Him—not in your strength, performance, or circumstances.

David experienced this deeply. In Psalm 34, he recalls how God met him in his greatest fears and delivered him. At a time when everything seemed to be slipping away, he cried out—and God answered. The place of his greatest anxiety became the place where he tasted the goodness of God.

A Fresh Identity for a New Season

As you set direction for this year, take time to be real with God. Lay before Him your deferred hopes, your deep desires, and your fears. Then, be still. Let Him speak.

He may give you a fresh sense of who you are in Him. He may reveal ways to walk in the opposite spirit of your fears. And He may remind you of His promises—truths that anchor you beyond the shifting waves of life.

May you be able to declare, like David:
"This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; He saved him out of all his troubles… Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him." (Psalm 34:6,8)

With you,
